Chapter 3

Ziggy's Perfect Nightmare

The events of the past few hours had taken their toll, and the crew of the Galactic Heap was trying to get back to a normal routine — as normal as life aboard a space station full of scrap and strange artifacts could possibly be. Captain Ziggy sat in his seat in the cockpit, his legs casually resting on the control panel as he stared into the vast, silent depths of space. Despite the recent turbulence, he seemed unusually relaxed.

“Ziggy, are you sure you're okay?” Kira asked suspiciously as she kept a close eye on the artifact, which was now locked inside an improvised containment chamber.

“Better than ever,” Ziggy replied with a smug grin. “I slept through the entire night, my coffee actually tastes like coffee, and we haven't had a single alarm in the last three hours. I'd say that's a record.”

Kira raised an eyebrow. “That sounds... almost too good to be true.”

“Maybe the artifact brought us some good luck,” Axl added, currently busy checking a series of circuits. “Maybe it's a magical anti-toaster that improves our lives in mysterious ways.”

“Or maybe it's just pretending that everything is fine before it drives us completely insane,” Kira muttered, continuing to watch the artifact.

But at that very moment, as Ziggy leaned back to position his feet even more comfortably, the artifact suddenly flared with a blinding light. The entire station vibrated, and a sensation that was difficult to put into words swept through the air — as if the universe itself had held its breath for the briefest moment.

Ziggy blinked in confusion and straightened up. “What was that?”

Kira and Axl exchanged a glance, and before either of them could answer, Ziggy suddenly began behaving differently. His movements became smoother, his posture straighter, and he spoke in a tone that was both reassuring and unsettling.

“Guys, I think we should focus on our mission. We have a lot of work ahead of us, and I'll make sure everything runs perfectly.” His eyes gleamed with determination as he gestured toward the instruments in front of him.

Kira blinked. “Uh... Ziggy, are you okay?”

“Everything is fine, Kira,” he replied with a perfect smile. “In fact, I've just optimized the navigation system and recalculated our route. We'll reach our destination in one-third of the time.”

Axl, who normally took every opportunity to make a sarcastic comment, simply stood there staring at the captain. “I think... Ziggy is now the perfect captain.”

“That can't be good,” Kira muttered as she watched Ziggy's transformation. “He's... too perfect.”

“Perfection is our goal, crew,” Ziggy declared in a tone that was somehow both reassuring and frightening. “And I will make sure we achieve it.”

“That's not Ziggy,” Kira whispered to Axl. “He hates perfection. He always does things his own... chaotic way.”

Axl nodded. “The artifact must have affected him. We need to reverse this before he...”

“Before I what?” Ziggy suddenly asked, his perfect smile growing even wider. “Before I finally do things properly? Don't worry. I've got everything under control.”

Kira gave Axl a panicked look. “We have to somehow turn him back to normal. That's not Ziggy, that's...”

“...a nightmare of perfection,” Axl finished, slowly taking a step backward.

Ziggy, now completely trapped in his new role as the perfect captain, began issuing orders with an efficiency that was completely unlike him. “Kira, prepare the systems for the jump. Axl, check the energy flows. We have no time to waste. I want results in five minutes.”

Kira, completely overwhelmed, silently nodded and got to work while Axl reluctantly followed his orders. But it was clear that things aboard the Galactic Heap were no longer the way they were supposed to be.

“I have a really bad feeling about this,” Kira whispered as she tried to find a way to turn Ziggy back into the chaotic, imperfect captain she knew and loved.

“Me too,” Axl agreed. “And I hope we find a solution before he plunges us all into a flawless but completely insane catastrophe.”

And so began the strangest chapter in the history of the Galactic Heap — a chapter in which the crew faced a new kind of threat: perfection in its most dangerous form.
