The dull hum of the Galactic Heap was the only sound breaking the silence of space as the crew tried to process the strange events triggered by the artifact. Ziggy stood with his arms crossed in the cockpit, staring through the front window into the endless darkness of space. “So, anyone got a brilliant idea how we're supposed to handle this thing?” he asked, without really expecting an answer.
“Maybe we should store it somewhere safe until we know more about it,” Kira suggested as she continued examining the artifact with her scanner. “I mean, it seems stable — for now, at least.”
“Somewhere safe?” Ziggy laughed dryly. “Kira, the last time you stored something in a ‘safe place,’ half the station ended up floating in zero gravity because the cooling system exploded.”
“Hey, that wasn't my fault,” Kira protested, barely looking up from her scanner. “The system had been outdated for years.”
Axl, who had recovered from his “toaster shock,” joined the conversation. “I think we should move it to the cargo hold and then... oh, never mind. We have no idea what we're supposed to do with it anyway. Maybe we should just ignore it and hope it doesn't turn us into slices of toast.”
“Fantastic plan,” Ziggy muttered. “So let's do what we do best — ignore problems until they bite us in the ass.”
Before anyone could make another suggestion, the artifact began pulsating again, this time more intensely than before. A faint hum filled the air, and then... it happened.
The gravity suddenly disappeared. Kira immediately floated into the air, her hair sticking out wildly as she desperately reached for something solid to hold on to. Ziggy, who had been standing firmly on the floor only moments before, found himself floating upside down, one hand desperately gripping the control console.
“What the...?! How?!” Ziggy struggled to orient himself, but his efforts were useless. “Kira, have you been messing with the gravity controls again?”
“I swear, I didn't do anything!” Kira shouted as she tried to grab one of the consoles, only to slowly drift across the room instead. “It has to be the artifact!”
Axl, who was clinging to one of the handles in the wall, delivered another dry comment. “Maybe it's just a particularly rude toaster that doesn't like gravity.”
“Not helpful, Axl!” Ziggy shouted as he tried to regain control of his legs. “Okay, we need to somehow get this thing back under control.”
“How are we supposed to do that when everything we touch sends us flying into space?” Kira asked, finally managing to grab onto a console.
Ziggy looked around. The situation was beginning to overwhelm him. “Axl, is there any way you can manually restore the gravity?”
“Maybe, but I'd have to make my way to the main controls,” Axl replied, now clinging to the walls like some kind of metallic spider monkey. “And, Captain, I doubt that's going to be easy.”
“Nothing around here is easy,” Ziggy grumbled with a deep sigh. “Okay, Axl, try to restore the gravity controls. Kira, stay nearby and be ready in case this thing causes even more trouble.”
“Understood,” Kira and Axl replied simultaneously.
While Axl struggled through the weightless room toward the main controls, Kira kept her eyes on the artifact, ready to intervene if necessary. Meanwhile, Ziggy tried to remain calm, even though his mind was already racing through possible solutions.
But just as Axl reached the controls and attempted to restore gravity, the inevitable happened. The artifact suddenly released a wave of energy that shot through the room. Kira barely managed to grab onto a console while Ziggy was once again sent tumbling upside down through the air.
“Axl, hurry up!” Ziggy shouted as he spun through the air. “Otherwise I'm going to spend the rest of my life upside down!”
“I'm working on it, Captain!” Axl called back as he frantically tried to enter the correct commands.
After a tense moment of silence, gravity finally returned, and all three of them landed hard on the floor. Ziggy rubbed his head and slowly got back to his feet while Kira once again attempted to scan the artifact.
“Well,” Ziggy finally said, looking between his two crew members. “That was... unexpected.”
“At least we weren't turned into slices of toast,” Axl remarked, brushing the dust from his metallic arms.
“Not yet,” Kira added as she continued studying the artifact. “But I have a feeling this is only the beginning.”
Ziggy slowly nodded and thoughtfully rubbed his chin. “Then we'd better prepare ourselves for things to get even crazier.”
“And maybe we should seriously consider throwing this thing into the cargo hold and hoping it leaves us alone,” Axl added.
“Or we find out what it really is,” Kira said firmly. “I mean, we can't just give up.”
“If we find out that it's actually an anti-toaster, I'll be the first one to open the cargo hold,” Ziggy grumbled as he narrowed his eyes at the artifact.
And so began the next phase of their chaotic odyssey — a journey that promised to become even crazier.
