During one of those endless nights when Dr. Hubert Quarks considered his laboratory both a sanctuary and a playground, chaos had completely taken over. The room was a mosaic of tangled cables, blinking lights, and a towering stack of coffee mugs that seemed to remain standing only because gravity felt unusually generous—or perhaps it was simply luck.
"This is it," Hubert muttered with a satisfied grin as he searched for his faithful "Lucky Screwdriver," which, naturally, was exactly where he always kept it—in his breast pocket. "The masterpiece of modern science. Legion Beta!" His voice echoed through the room as if the walls themselves were waiting to applaud.
An irritated beep came from the corner where the little robot ALF-14 had bumped into the wall once again. "Quiet, ALF-14! This is a historic moment!" Hubert called out, although he wasn't entirely sure why. Perhaps it was the restless buzzing of the smoke detector, which always went off whenever the clones activated their laser-like eyes to illuminate the room.
He glanced at the monitors, where his clones rested in perfect formation inside their chambers. They looked like an especially unsettling collection of action figures, ready either to save the world—or drive it completely insane. "So many possibilities," Hubert whispered as he leaned over the activation button.
But before pressing it, a brief moment of reason crossed his mind. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his "List of Things You Should NEVER Do." As his finger pushed the button, one item silently disappeared from the list: "Never activate all clones at the same time." He shrugged. "What could possibly go wrong?"
With an exaggerated flourish worthy of the hero in a poorly written action movie, he pressed the button. The monitors flickered, and the clones awakened. Their eyes shone so brightly that the smoke detector immediately went into full panic mode. Hubert blinked as tears filled his eyes from the blinding light.
"All right, Legion Beta," he declared proudly. "Welcome to the world! You're the greatest invention since... well... me."
But deep within the labyrinth of circuits, a tiny flaw stirred to life—a paradox waiting patiently to unfold like the world's worst soap opera.
A quiet chuckle escaped one of the clones, an unsettlingly cheerful sound that drifted through the laboratory. Hubert shivered.
"That was... strange."
But he pushed the thought aside. After all, what could possibly go wrong?
"This is going to be an interesting week," he muttered as he silenced the smoke detector with a perfectly aimed throw of his "Lucky Screwdriver."
